Getting your skin prepared for the big day begins today.

Want to look glowy and gorgeous for your upcoming wedding photos? If you’re a bride-to-be this year, I invite you to be inspired. Today I am sharing my top 3 summer skincare bridal tips to prevent sun damage, uneven skin and redness (all killers for your flawless bridal makeup application). Treat your skin and body kindly and you will be the most beautiful and the happiest bride in the world. And the most radiant!

H2O is a bride's best friend. Get hydrated now.

H2O is a bride’s best friend. Get hydrated now.

Why: Higher temperatures and more time outdoors leads to internal dehydration. Water is secret behind their supple, glowing, always camera-ready skin.

What it will do for you: Eight 8-ounce glasses of plain, filtered water every day help maintain critical moisture balance of the body and skin, and assist in detoxification. Up your regimen’s level of hydration with intensive masques, perfect for use one to two times a week. Boosters are a great fit, working best when layered underneath a moisturizer. Toners are refreshing moisturizer prep, working to even out skin porosity.

Tip:  Avoid alcohol and snack on natural diuretics like cucumber and watermelon to flush out any toxins, de-bloat and to enhance your natural wedding day glow.

Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin.

Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin.

What it does: Exfoliation removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and improve hydration from toners and moisturizers.

When: Perform in the mornings prior to toner, moisturizer, SPF and make-up application.

Tip: Your bridal make-up application will last longer on an exfoliated skin!

Apply Sunscreen And Repair Sun Damage!

Apply Sunscreen And Repair Sun Damage!

Why:   While brides prize deep bronzy tans that seem to make us glow and look amazing in their white gowns, real tans are horrible for your skin! UV light causes photo-aging in the form of brown spots, coarse skin and wrinkles, whether you have burned your skin or not. When sunlight comes in contact with skin a cascade of damage results (including the stripping of barrier lipids) causing inflammation, production of reactive oxygen molecules that affect healthy cell growth, and stimulation of collagen destructing enzymes.

It’s not enough to just apply sunscreen; you must apply enough, and apply frequently.  I have noticed that most brides do not apply nearly as much daylight protection as they should in hopes of getting more tan for the big day.  I recommend that you apply a teaspoon for the face and for the body, about as much as would fill a shot glass. Re-apply every two hours and try to stay out of the midday sun from mid-morning to late afternoon whenever you can. A tan may be a popular summer look for our South Florida destination brides, but it indicates damage. Bombard your skin with age-fighting ingredients to help undo any damage that may occur, and to further protect it from the aging effects of UV.

What it can do for you: The sophisticated formulas and technology we have now allows you to select sun protection that works with your skin type. That means you can choose oil-free, mattifying formulas, extra emollient formulas for dry skin, or chemical free formulas for sensitized, reactive skin.

Tip: If you forgot to apply or didn’t apply enough sunscreen, then you’ll want soothe over-exposed skin. Unfortunately, the damage is done, but you don’t have to suffer in pain! Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation.

Never underestimate the importance of skin care preparation to ensure a clean, fresh, natural looking makeup canvas. So before my bridal makeup applications I provide a relaxing, mini facial to clean and exfoliate the face. Thorough skin prepping will ensure your foundation to glides on smoothly to result in a flawless coverage. Beautiful, glowing skin represents this radiant light of happiness like nothing else. But, if you want a glowing bridal complexion and don’t want to expose yourself to the health risks of sunbathing, a pro fake tan is your next best option to temporarily deepen your complexion to achieve a rich bronzed look.

As a professional makeup artist I understand all the elements of professional photographic makeup, while still achieving a sparklingly glamorous or naturally golden look. I know just how your makeup will be affected by South Florida’s humid, sub-tropical weather, lighting and camera technique. I will work with colors and pigments that complement your skin, style and personality, giving you a radiant and bronzy makeup look. And you don’t even need a lot of makeup to achieve a great-looking sun- kissed glow (glow products should be used sparingly because too much can be overpowering). The best part is that I can make you look like a bronze goddess, creating this look naturally, without the wrinkles, brown spots or carcinogens that come from sun exposure.

Having the right dress and the right hair style are just part of the equation. Having the right makeup artist is also critical on your wedding day. Contact me for a consultation today. Allowing yourself to look absolutely radiant on your wedding day is not a luxury. It is an absolute must!
