Time To Delineate! – Fashion Runway Black Eyeliner Looks

The transformative power of makeup never ceases to amaze me. For the upcoming season, the makeup looks are drizzled in sexiness as a myriad of hot and fabulous cosmetics in an array of intense hues. Makeup trends are more unconventional and imaginative than ever. I love how the makeup is an integral piece of any runway show; it adds to the aesthetic of the show and helps to showcase the clothes.

With their dramatic bustles and lace corsets, some of the gowns looked like they were snatched straight from the 18th century. Of course, they were accompanied by these gorgeous bun-chignon hybrids—the volume and slightly undone feel added some modern drama to the looks.

Bridal Beauty Trends – Spring/Summer 2012

Bridal beauty trends, tastes and styles are always changing, and here at Bridal Makeovers, we make it our job to update our skills and to dish out the latest and greatest wedding hair & makeup looks and ideas. This blog/gallery features some of our favorite beauty trends for 2012 brides.

Spring/Summer 2012 Bridal Beauty Trends

Spring/Summer 2012 Bridal Beauty Trends

We’re going to kick off a Bridal Makeup Spring/Summer 2012 Style post on the trends and  makeup must haves for the season!  Here’s a look at what this season’s makeup trends are. Brides will love The Bare Faced Chic look of this season’s natural ‘nude’  face that’s ruling the runways. The idea is that less is more and fresh faced look is in, in a big way.

Check out this season's Runway Inspired Makeup Trends for Brides.

While following trends will keep you fashion-forward, it’s best to keep it simple. I absolutely love the high-fashion treatment that classic bridal has been getting the past few seasons. It’s really refreshing to see unique gowns in unexpected colors, silhouettes, and fabrics. Since bridal designers are definitely thinking outside the box this season with colored gowns and printed wedding dresses that I got to thinking about all the creative ways to incorporate blossoming prints and patterns into bridal makeup artistry.

I feel you should pick one simple element, it could be a color, something in a sweet cotton-candy pink or something embellished with lace and covered in pearls and crystals, that’s going to be on-trend. Take one visual element and incorporate it into your wedding makeup palette. Another updated option is to almost reverse the smoky eye by applying a crystal/nude shadow and chocolate liner below the bottom lash line. I suggest easing up on the super lined, smokey eyes and just lining the eyes from the outer corners to the middle, like the models at the spring 2012 Dolce & Gabbana show.

Vidal Sassoon: Loss Of A Legend

"If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.” Vidal Sassoon

"If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.” Vidal Sassoon

How true of a statement this is! Vidal Sassoon, the man who made hairdressing “hip” and an “art” died 2 weeks ago, but not before leaving his mark on the world of fashion.

Hairdressing the ‘Sassoon’ way means working with the hair in its natural state and giving the wearer a hair style that works precisely for their style and ease. This was a totally new concept back in the 60’s. Vidal Sassoon was the innovator of ‘wash and wear hair’ therefor freeing women from the subjection of a weekly visit to the hair salon.

“My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.” Vidal Sassoon

“My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.” Vidal Sassoon

When Mr. Sassoon entered the beauty world he understood that for most women, a trip to the hairdresser meant having their hair slathered in Dippity-do, going under a dryer with hair set in tight, prickly brush-rollers for at least an hour, and then having their locks coiffed and teased mercilessly into a sort of  helmet-head hair style guaranteed to hold in place till the following weeks appointment. He started to think about hair and the client in an entirely new way.  Vidal Sassoon became a pioneer in the world of hairstyling by turning it upside-down with his new visions and concepts.

Hair by Vidal Sassoon - Spiral Curls

Vidal was inspired by modern architecture; the way the structure of buildings graced the land, ushered the modernist angles into his early hairstyling techniques. He translated this into the way he did hair. He knew how to create art on someone’s head that suited their bone structure and face shape. This is something that is not simply taught, but a gift that you are born with.

I have to be honest, it totally makes me smile when I think of this iconic gentleman slapping a clients hand away with the comb if they tried to touch it mid-cut or mid-style. He also lost patience when his clients gave too much input and once threw his shears in the air out of frustration, and they stuck in the ceiling! Classic!

It could be argued that the Oscars are all about the fashion. Hollywood beauties strutted the red carpet with flawless skin and glossy lips during this year’s Oscars, the most glamorous event of the year and the beauty industry’s biggest source of inspiration.

Check out our Beauty Spotlight predictions based on the style highlights from this year’s most notable hair and makeup looks. From shiny waves and sleek buns to glam ponytails and undone chignons, the Oscars always inspire the hottest hair looks for brides and 2012 was no exception. While most of the stars opted for up-dos, a few went with half-up dos.

Here, the red carpet styles we love:

Bridal Makeovers Guide to 2011’s HOT Summer Trends!

Greetings brides everywhere! Ladies, I am happy to report that this Summer is really sexy!

If you are on the cutting edge of makeup and bridal fashion, this is so up your alley or down your aisle, whichever you prefer.

The hottest trends from the runway in the Spring/Summer 2011 fashion shows are all about the details. This season there is a special emphasis on unique fabrications and couture details. Organza ruffles, sensuous silks, and creamy satins dominate, whether artfully draped, elaborately beaded, or delicately trimmed with Swarovski crystals. I just love the artful bridal makeup and hair that encapsulates the essence of these collections.

Here are my favorite Summer makeup collections. The looks created by these fashionable houses are inspired by the runway, yet very wearable for a bride.

These ready-to-wear collections combine warm and vibrant catwalk-led hues with sensual tones of blush to more intense corals; all designed to create elegant bridal looks.

Spotted on all the runways were “defined brows” paired with gel-lined eyes, a soft creamy complexion and that sought after bridal glow.

Soft shimmer on the eyes, and a bold lip seem to be the common trends. Don’t let the bright color scare you. This season, pouts are sweet and tropical! Be bold this Summer by rocking hues with an unexpected elegance. Dab on a creamy coral, fuchsia pink, tomato red lipstick with fingers for a soft look or apply with a lip brush for precision application. To prevent color from bleeding, outline lips with a matching lip-liner. For super staying power, apply a long-lasting lip stain and then liven it up with an accompanying clear gloss.

In Honor of the Royal Wedding…

The date of the Royal Wedding – Friday, 29th April – is inching ever closer… How will Kate Middleton’s makeup measure up to history?

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton – Just a little powder to kill the shine would have not  hurt here…

It has been reported that she will be doing her own makeup on the big day, however, she has decided to take private lessons with a professional makeup artist. I applaud her for this decision at least. I always inform my brides that if they insist on doing their own makeup for their weddings,  that a lesson or two is crucial to a photo ready look.

With 1,900 guests in attendance and the eyes of the world set to be upon her, Kate Middleton’s ‘bridal makeup look’ will be scrutinized in fashion magazines and the web for months to come. Wouldn’t you want your wedding day makeup to be absolutely flawless? I hope Kate practiced everything she learned in her makeup lessons and I hope that she will not be so nervous that she forgets everything! A little back up assistance wouldn’t hurt though,  especially for the touch-ups. Good luck Kate!

Brides throughout history have used makeup to enhance their looks. Royal Brides of the past used cosmetic formulas that were also used in aphrodisiacs. However, vanity was still an issue, so cosmetics still had a place on the face. The ancient Romans believed a woman without paint is like food without salt.

Moral of the story… Most women think they know how to do their own makeup. They’ll do it every day and they’ll think it looks good. But what you see face-to-face, and what the camera sees, are two different things. Hiring someone with a professional makeup background who understands how makeup reads in a photograph is an advantage.

If you prefer to do it yourself… Learning how to create a photo ready makeup look is a valuable skill that will empower your beauty and self confidence on your big day and any other time you want to create a special look for your self.

Bridal Blue Eye Shadow – The The New Trend In 2011 For Brides. Really?

Blue eye shadow was very popular in the late 50’s 60’s. Andy Warhol produced prints of a bevy of beauties, including Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, with exaggerated, acid blue lids. By the 70’s baby blue eye shadow was “de riguer”, it was required and almost obligatory by all fashionable brides! By the time the late 80’s rolled around, blue eye shadow was considered a joke. This made it impossible for brides to confidently wear blue eyeshadow. But now we are seeing wedding looks with bold cobalt blues.

The power of blue eye shadow is no modern revelation. This trend that actually got its start in the Victorian period when a bluish tinge to the eyelids was considered beautiful and the sign of an innocent heart. “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed Something Blue.”  What does Something blue mean? – Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, “Marry in blue, lover be true”

Once again blues are the the new trend in 2011 for brides. Bright, bold cobalt blue will be seen more at weddings in the flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses, the brides’ shoes and even bright bold eye shadows.
