How To Create The Perfect Canvas For Your Bridal Makeup

You’ve seen them… Brides who have such flawless complexions, they almost look air brushed (even when they’re not). Those brides who look like they’ve never had skin woes in their lives. Those brides know how to look after their skin. Before heading down that aisle, make sure your complexion is ready for your close-up so that you can be one of those brides.

How To Create The Perfect Canvas For Your Bridal Makeup

But before you select that perfect foundation that’s suited to your skin type, that indispensable concealer, and or those trendy contouring and highlighting palettes, you’ll want to first take excellent care of your skin. Remember, pre-wedding stress can manifest itself in many ways—including on your face. To keep your skin smooth, supple, and wrinkle-free, follow these steps.

1) Proper cleansing of the face will ensure you are getting the best results from your other products and a whole host of other benefits. When we cleanse, we can strip our skin’s natural acid mantle and change the pH, which is not the ideal setting for your bridal makeup to behave properly. Because you risk damage that could potentially show up in those once-in-a-lifetime photos, it’s important to be kind and gentle with your face. Start off by cleansing your complexion with a mild cleanser to remove makeup, oil, and dirt. For best results, give yourself a nice relaxing massage while cleansing and turn into a spa-like experience. Use gentle circular motions, starting from the center of your face and sweeping outwards and upwards. For your neck, use upward sweeping motions. When massaging the eye area, go counter-clockwise to avoid stretching the delicate skin around your eyes.

2) When it comes to exfoliating, be extremely gentle and don’t overdo it! Exfoliating is really important as it rids the skin or its dead skin cells. I recommend that you exfoliate only 2 to 3 times a week. Lactic acid exfoliators help to slough away dead skin cells naturally while Vitamin C is great for brightening the skin.

3) Say goodbye to pre-wedding nerves and anxiety—and the havoc they wreak on skin. Applying a mask that’s intensely cleansing, moisturizing and healing to your skin is like a rejuvenating cocoon that will reveal an even more beautiful version of yourself.

4) Blot your skin dry, and spritz on a soothing rose or chamomile toner to add a dewy glow. Applying a freshner is also a great base for layering your serums on top as it helps your skin absorb the skincare benefits of your serums better.

5) Then, rather than slathering on a heavy moisturizer, opt for a gel-based hydrator that’ll leave your face smooth and not only extend the wear of your makeup, but it’ll ensure your skin is looking its dewy best on the day of your wedding. Go for a lightweight eye cream for your delicate eye area as heavier textures tend to clog up the pores and cause milia to form around the eyes. Gently pat or roll the serum around your eyes using the tips of your ring fingers in a counter-clockwise motion. Try keeping your eye cream in the fridge, the cold will help to reduce swelling and puffiness on the morning of your big day.
