How To Make Your Bridal Makeup Last – 5 Crucial Steps

Finding wedding day cosmetics that truly match your skin, without clogging pores or causing irritation, seems to be the universal bridal dilemma. There’s no denying the impact that a consistent skin-care routine can have on your bridal look. But, when your big day arrives and you find yourself with problem skin that needs to be disguised, you’ll need the instant skin perfecting qualities of what a good professional bridal makeup application offers.

How To Make Your Bridal Makeup Last - 5 Crucial Steps

When it comes to HD photography close-ups, your normal makeup just isn’t good enough anymore. Brides now need HD make-up to ensure gorgeous skin. So, if you want your bridal complexion to have a flawless coverage, be soft to the touch and completely even, then it’s time to say yes to luminous bridal makeup with these few essential makeup steps and product recommendations:

1) The goal is for your skin to appear glowing and fresh. This means ensuring your skin is correctly prepped. Primers keep your foundation looking fresh for as long as you’re wearing it. Apply a light layer of primer on your face and an eye shadow primer to smooth out the skin on the lids, cover up veins to prevent shadows and liners from migrating for hours. From dullness, to redness and even sallowness, there are many great HD primers to that will cover every kind of complexion concern. My favorite way to blurs fine lines, pores, and imperfections? Why Smashbox of course!

2) Create a flawless canvas by select an HD foundation that’s suited to your skin type. Choose a matte finish if you tend to get oily, and go with a creamy formula if you’re on the dry side. Steer clear of illuminating formulas, as digital photography is hyper-sensitive to shimmer and can make glowing skin look greasy. Look for a formula that offers buildable pigment, gives a flawless finish, and perfectly matches your skin tone. You’ll want to use a foundation brush to sweep makeup onto the t-zone. Blend it out to the edges of your face and ears, taking care to work it into your neck and hairline. Then, press it into your skin with a damp sponge (to remove excess makeup and smooth it out). One of my favorites is the iconic Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Foundation. It finish looks incredibly natural and doesn’t leave skin with an “artificial” look, so it’s perfect for the camera as well as the naked eye.

3) For blemishes, regular concealer just doesn’t cut it. Instead, use a camouflage, a type of cover-up that’s tacky to the touch. It’s a drier version of concealer that’s densely pigmented and less emollient so it stays put and makes anything vanish. Wondering what I use in my kit to fully cover, correct and conceal? I love the water-based liquid cream concealer by Cover FX, it’s designed for both the under-eye area and face, and it helps to conceal imperfections, darkness, and discolorations like nothing else!

4) Set your makeup like a makeup pro with an invisible setting powder. It’s been applied on brides by pro makeup artists now for years. Finishing powders are designed to keep your wedding makeup fresh and flawless for hours with no caking, creasing, ashiness, or breakthrough shine. Use a large, fluffy brush to sweep seamlessly over skin, locking in a soft-focus finish that will stay comfortably matte all day. My all-time favorite reinforces wearability for up to 16 hours of consistent color wear and it’s smudge and transfer resistant – Dermablend Setting Powder I love the pigment-free formula because it blends smoothly over all skin tones and makeup products without altering color or texture.

5) Finally, keep shine in check by using mattifying, blotting sheets throughout the day to soak up excess oil without removing your bridal makeup. Oil-controlling sheets are the best way to keep your glow from getting greasy. Use them on the forehead, tip of the nose and chin—all areas that tend to gleam the most. I really like the Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens because they’re formulated with green tea extract to soothe and protect skin while minimizing shine in the process.
