Bridal Skin Breakout Prevention Basics

Flawless makeup starts with healthy skin. As a professional makeup artist and skin care expert, one of the questions I’m asked most often is, “How do I care for my skin to prevent skin breakouts before my wedding?

There are many types of easy treatments that can help in maintaining a clear complexion for the big day. Unfortunately many brides use over-the-counter acne products that are formulated to dry up oil and excessive breakouts for teenagers, but for an adult who may only be getting one or two breakouts at a time, these products will leave their entire face skin dried out and irritated (horrible for your makeup application!). Many of these products contain harsh chemicals that may exasperate your skin problems!  Natural products contain substances with antibacterial properties that can help you heal your skin in healing. Today’s blog will highlight some of these methods.
.

Tip #1: Resist temptation! Avoid picking at your pimples to prevent infection and scarring. The uneven discolorations are often the result of picking at acne.
.

Tip #2: Use a gentle product with salicylic acid underneath moisturizer a few nights per week. The benefit of using salicylic acid is that it gets into the pore lining and helps to destroy acne-causing bacteria to prevent breakouts, yet it’s also effective for fading down discoloration (brown spots) from hormones, sun and age and well as exfoliating the skin to keep it looking smooth.
.

Tip #3: Dab on lemon juice. This treatment works for several great reasons; lemon juice is a natural astringent, so it will work to close up your pores. Its high acidity will kill off lots of the bacteria clogging your pores, and it has natural lightening powers which will reduce the redness of your zits. Put lemon juice directly on your pimple and leave it be till your next regular face wash.
.

Tip #4: Zinc helps zits because it reduces the formation of toxins under your skin. Cystic zits sufferers  should take zinc supplements each day.
.

Tip #5: Remember that if all else fails and you end up with a blemish or two, Photoshop is an amazing invention and can clear up any issues in a click.
.

Tip #6: Tea tree oil has been used by dermatologists for years to reduce skin irritation and acne. Get some pure tea tree oil and coat your acne with it. Do this after washing your face twice daily for the best results.
.

Tip #7: Put on some witch hazel. Witch hazel is a natural astringent typically used for cleaning up cuts. Put on pimples though, it will tighten the pores and kill the bacteria clogging them. Apply it heavily to your acne-prone areas or sweep it over your whole face with a cotton ball.
.

Tip #8: Make a honey mask. A natural antibacterial agent, honey works to clear clogged pores and lift off excess oil and dead skin. Coat your whole face in honey and leave it for as long as you can before rinsing off. Additionally, dab honey directly on your pimples and cover with a bandage while you sleep overnight. By morning, your zit should have significantly reduced in size and redness.
.

Tip #9: Green tea is an astringent that’s packed with lots of antioxidants, which help reduce signs of aging by fighting free radicals. Steep a tea bag in some hot water, remove the tea bag along with all the liquid, and place onto affected area briefly.
.

Tip #10: Tomato has acid that will break down the pimple and reduce it. The acid closes your pores and fights bacteria. Apply 1 half of the whole to your face on one side, and the other half to the other side of your face.
