VINTAGE BRIDAL INSPIRATIONS – 60’s Hair & Beauty That Transforms!

Welcome all! Nostalgia seems to be the predominant fashion mode for so many of my brides. Are you considering a vintage dress but you’re worried where to start the search for the hair and makeup?

Well, lucky, lucky you! Today we are talking about the early 1960’s influence on fashion! It is hard to find a more diverse era for bridal fashion makeup and hair than the Mod 1960’s. The words radical, mod and carefree come to mind when we tune in on this era but so do the words bouffant and elegance.

I just love when contemporary editorials channel the early 60’s. So I wanted to do a modern take on early ’60s glam bridal inspiration for my brides. Brides that are inspired by vintage looks need to take a look at these exceptionally stylish and progressive alternatives to traditional looks. Lots of times, brides come to me asking for a vintage makeup look, but they are not really sure which era they would like to borrow from.

This blog post was created for brides who would love to do a retro 60’s look, but want something completely original and don’t have the time, the energy, or the faintest idea where to start. My tip to you is to first decide whether you are going early to mid 1960’s or late decade sixties. Most of you desire a retro make-up look that is all about creating the illusion of bigger eyes. In the early 60’s make-up was heavily focused on the eyes. Black eyeliner, white eyeshadow and lush fake lashes to create that innocent wide eyes 60’s makeup look.

A heavy liner on the top lash-line flicked out, then a liner under the eye meeting the flick – leaving a gap at the outer corner of the eye to elongate them as shown in very retro style for Vogue Italia; explores beauty trends from the past and transfers them into wearable, updated ideas for hair and makeup. Channeling the 1960s today is easier than ever, thanks to the fact that ’60s styles are back in fashion.

By its very nature, fashion is in a constant state of change, but the industry has a way of rehashing the past every few seasons with bridal collections that draw inspiration from key moments in fashion’s history. Bridal fashion designers are revisiting everything from the decade that ushered in with all the elegance of the La Dolce Vita and Breakfast at Tiffany’s look sporting super coiffed hair and high dress formals, to the exit in 1969 that was a 180 degree turn, when in the swinging sixties, the ultra hip opted for bridal mini dresses.
